Welcome!
I’m Sabrina Kimball, co-founder of Universal Changing Places. My son, Greyson, and I founded this movement in 2015. Our mission is to make public restrooms more accessible for people with disabilities and those who require assistance with personal care, enhancing ADA-compliant facilities to ensure dignity, safety, and independence for all.
Universal Changing Places began as a grassroots movement inspired by Changing-Places UK, which started in 2006 to address the needs of individuals requiring specialized facilities. Their model has spread globally, and Changing Places facilities are now established in the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, Austria, Norway, and Canada. Advocacy efforts continue in many other countries, making this a growing international movement.

Our Story
In 2015, I was an intern in Partners in Policymaking (PIP), a leadership and advocacy program for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. PIP taught me how to turn ideas into action, which led Greyson and me to start UCP.
This cause is deeply personal. Greyson and I faced the daily challenge of inaccessible restrooms. Many families in our situation are forced to change loved ones on unclean public restroom floors or leave events early. I spent countless hours in local malls checking fitting rooms, hoping to find a safe, private place with a bench for him.
Because of liability and practical considerations in the U.S., full Changing-Places restrooms were not feasible at the outset. We chose to focus on powered height-adjustable adult changing tables and family restrooms as the core elements needed for a Universal Changing Place.
Our Early Beginnings
In the first years of Universal Changing Places, we made meaningful strides by placing powered height-adjustable adult changing tables in key locations, helping to demonstrate the need and feasibility of accessible family restrooms:
-
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) -
First State in the US to add them to their Rest Areas -
Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, Tallahassee, FL
-
Florida State University - Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, FL
-
Orlando International Airport -
First International Airport in the US to add them across their Concourse
These early placements were crucial in showing businesses and agencies how Universal Changing Places could enhance accessibility and dignity for people with disabilities and their caregivers.
Honoring Greyson’s Legacy
Greyson may no longer be with us, but his vision and courage live on through this movement. Universal Changing Places is more than a campaign - it’s a movement to restore dignity, safety, and inclusion for people with disabilities and their caregivers. Together, we can ensure that no family has to face the struggles that inspired Greyson’s mission.
